Teenage Circumcision in Ireland

At Circumcision Centre Ireland, we provide expert circumcision for teenage boys (typically ages 13 to 18) in a private, respectful, and medical setting. Whether for religious, cultural, medical, or personal hygiene reasons, our clinic in Portmarnock, Co. Dublin offers specialist care for older children and teens.

We are one of the only clinics in Ireland offering circumcision to this age group with both traditional cut & stitch and, in some cases, the new CircCurer™ stapler method.

Expert-Led Care for Teens

Teenage circumcision is different from baby or toddler circumcision. It requires:

  • A calm, respectful approach

  • Privacy and dignity

  • A detailed consultation with both parent and teenager (if appropriate)

  • A clear explanation of method, healing, and expectations

Our expert surgeon, Dr Wani, is IMC-registered and highly experienced in performing circumcisions for teens using the safest and most appropriate method based on anatomy and age.

Circumcision Methods available for Teenagers

We typically use the traditional forceps-guided method (also known as cut and stitch), but some teens may also be suitable for the newer CircCurer™ stapler technology.  All procedures are performed under local anaesthetic.

Cut and stitch (Traditional)

Time: 40-60 mins

The foreskin is separated with a clamp/forceps, and then surgically removed with a blade or cautery.

The wound is then stitched together all the way around with dissolvable stitches.

Healing time is around 4-6 weeks.

This is the more common technique, and cosmetic outcome is variable.

CircCurer Stapler Circumcision

Time: 10-15 mins

We are the only clinic in Ireland offering Stapler Circumcision with the CircCurer™ device. This technique may be used if the anatomy allows, i.e. if the boy has completed puberty.

This New and Advanced method benefits from:

  • Fast operation time (under 10 minutes)
  • Minimal or no bleeding
  • Less pain compared to traditional circumcision
  • Excellent cosmetic result.

How does Stapler Circumcision Work?

The head of the penis (glans) is exposed.  A protective bell is used over the glans, and the stapler device is applied over the foreskin.  The device then precisely cuts and closes the wound using miniature titanium staples in less than 3 minutes.  The staples then fall out between 1-4 weeks to leave a precise and clean scar.

The procedure is done under local anaesthetic. Our comprehensive blog article provides an in-depth guide and answers more of your questions on stapler circumcision!

A great experience from start to finish. Lana at reception was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Wani made me feel incredibly at ease throughout the whole process. Talking me through the procedure before hand and then our friendly chats while it was going on to take my mind off it all. I opted for the stapler method and can’t recommend it enough. Quick, simple and very happy with the result and how it looks. Would definitely recommend!

FAQ

Your Questions Answered!

We understand that circumcision can be a big decision to take for a teenager, and be a daunting experience.  We aim to clarify the main questions you may have:

Yes, the procedure is done under local anaesthetic. The area will be fully numb.  Your son is able to watch videos or play games during the procedure to keep him distracted.

Your teen will feel a quick sting from the anaesthetic injection, but no pain during the procedure. Some discomfort may occur in the days following — this is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.

Most teens heal in 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the method used. Full healing can take up to 6 weeks, but many return to school or normal activity within a few days (avoiding sports for 2 weeks).

In some cases, yes. It depends on size, anatomy, and clinical assessment. We will advise you during the consultation.

Yes — usually after 48 hours, we’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions and wound care guidance.

Circumcision is a safe procedure when performed by an experienced specialist. Minor risks include:

  • Swelling or bruising (which usually subsides within a few days)
  • Minor bleeding
  • Infection (rare – reduced by following aftercare advice)

Costs vary depending on age and the method of circumcision. Please contact us for personalised pricing.
